Overview

The property

Shaped like Noah's namesake vessel and moored, in effect, at the edge of a forest clearing, The Ark is one of the most recognisable lodge buildings in East Africa. Four separate viewing decks — including a ground-level bunker at eye level with the waterhole — let guests watch elephant, buffalo, giant forest hog and, with patience, black rhino come to drink and lick salt through the night.

The cabin-style rooms are modest by design; nobody books The Ark for the square footage. What it offers instead is a genuinely immersive wildlife-watching format rarely replicated elsewhere in Kenya, backed by a small library, an old-world bar, and a restaurant that keeps the format simple so the real entertainment stays outside the window.
