What it’s actually like

Guided, non-technical treks up Mount Kenya (Sirimon, Chogoria, Naro Moru routes) and Mount Kilimanjaro (Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, Marangu routes), with registered guides, porters, and a cook throughout. Itineraries include dedicated acclimatization days to improve summit success rather than rushing the ascent.

Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro sit a few hundred kilometres apart and both offer a trekking route rather than a technical climb — no ropes or climbing experience required, just fitness and a properly paced itinerary to acclimatize. VPAAL runs both as guided treks with a full support crew: registered mountain guides, porters, and a cook, following established routes like Sirimon–Chogoria on Mount Kenya or Machame and Lemosho on Kilimanjaro.

Route choice affects both the summit odds and the experience along the way. Chogoria is generally rated the most scenic approach on Mount Kenya, while Lemosho and Machame on Kilimanjaro trade a shorter itinerary for better acclimatization days, which meaningfully raises success rates compared to a rushed five-day climb. We build in the extra acclimatization night on longer routes by default rather than as an optional upsell, since altitude sickness is the main reason climbs get cut short.

Camping and hut arrangements vary by mountain and route — Kilimanjaro uses tented camps on most routes, while Mount Kenya has a mix of huts and camping depending on the path. Either way, gear lists, porter loads, and daily distances are worked out before departure so there are no surprises on the mountain.
